Salesforce has retired Social Studio, so this is not a comparison of preferences. Every team on it has to go somewhere, and the ones who moved well all did the same thing: they split what Social Studio actually did for them into publishing, listening and CRM connection, and replaced each piece on its own merits.
Hunting for one product that does all three at Salesforce scale is what turns these migrations into six-month projects.
TLDR: Sprout Social or Hootsuite for the closest enterprise-suite replacement. Brandwatch or Talkwalker if listening was the real value. Mydrop if publishing, approvals and reporting were what you used. Keep the CRM join in the CRM.
Mydrop pricing check, September 2026: the entry paid plans of the eight tools most often compared with Mydrop run from $6 per channel (Buffer) and $25 a month (Later) to $99 per user (Hootsuite) and $199 per seat (Sprout Social), read on each vendor's pricing page. Mydrop is free to start, then $19 a month flat, not per seat. Full table on Mydrop's compare pages.
The 6 replacements at a glance
| Tool | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social | Closest suite-style replacement | Priced per seat |
| Hootsuite | Familiar to enterprise procurement | Breadth over depth |
| Brandwatch | Listening and consumer intelligence | A listening product, not a publisher |
| Mydrop | Publishing, approvals, multi-brand reporting | No native Salesforce join |
| Emplifi | Enterprise CX and commerce focus | Heavy implementation |
| Talkwalker | Enterprise listening | Same, plus the cost |
What actually needs replacing
- Publishing and approval governance. For most teams this was 80% of daily use, and it is the easiest piece to replace well.
- Listening and monitoring. A genuinely separate product category. Don't expect a publisher to cover it.
- The Salesforce join. Usually the reason it was bought, and often the least-used feature in practice.
- Historical data. The part teams forget about until access ends.
1. Sprout Social: the like-for-like route
If procurement wants one vendor and a familiar enterprise setup, this is the shortest route and the least internal argument.
Skip it if you have a lot of seats, because the pricing model will hurt.
2. Brandwatch: if listening was the value
Replace listening with a proper listening product, rather than settling for the thin version bundled into a publisher.
Skip it if your team mostly published.
3. Hootsuite: the procurement-friendly option
Wide coverage and an enterprise sales approach that most Salesforce customers will recognise.
Skip it if you want depth in any single area.
Mydrop: if publishing was what you used
Be honest about how you really used it before you buy another suite. If the daily work was scheduling, approving and reporting on brand channels, Mydrop has it covered:
- workspaces and roles
- approval workflows and a no-login client portal
- multi-brand content calendar
- white-label PDF reports
- deep per-platform analytics
It covers 14 networks, with brand separation and governance built in. It is free to start too, which makes it a cheap parallel run during a migration you never chose.
There is no staying put
Social Studio is retired, so the only decision left is the order you do things in. Teams that rebuilt publishing first and listening second recovered fastest. Publishing is the daily job, while listening can survive a gap of a few weeks.
Migrating off a retired platform
- Export everything while you still have access, especially historical reporting and saved listening queries.
- List your connected profiles and who owns each one. Retirements are when orphaned accounts turn up.
- Rebuild publishing and approvals first, since that is the work that stops without a tool.
- Replace listening separately, once the daily operation is stable.
A forced migration is a chance to stop paying for the parts you never used. Start free with Mydrop, rebuild publishing in a week, and buy listening only if you really used it.
