Posting the same content to several social networks. It saves time, but each network has its own limits, so one caption rarely fits all of them as is.

One caption rarely fits everywhere: X stops at 280 characters, Threads at 500, and Instagram allows 5 hashtags.

One post, a caption for each network
Mydrop's composer publishes one post to 14 networks and lets you give any of them its own caption, with each limit checked as you type.
Your caption stays in your browser. Nothing is sent or saved.
What breaks when you cross-post
Each network counts its own way
X counts most emojis as 2 and every link as 23, and TikTok counts emojis as 2. The same caption can fit Instagram and break X.
Hashtags, links and phone numbers
Instagram allows 5 hashtags and Threads 1 topic tag. Links are not clickable in Instagram or TikTok captions, and Google Business Profile refuses links and phone numbers.
Some networks need media
Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest take no text-only post, and YouTube needs a video. LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Threads and Bluesky accept text alone.
Example: “Brunch is back Friday 🌸 Book at https://example.com/brunch or call 555 123 4567 #brunch #spring #foodie #weekend #local #menu” = 123 characters on X, 6 hashtags for Instagram's 5, and Google Business Profile refuses the link and the phone number
Rules checked on 21 October 2026, against each network's rules and the limits Mydrop's editor enforces.

Every cross-posting rule in one table
Limits, the "more" cut, hashtags, links and media for each of the 10 networks.
| Network | Character limit | Seen before "more" | Hashtags | Links in the caption | Media needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2,200 | About 125 | 5 per post | Not clickable | A photo or video | |
| TikTok | 2,200 via the API (4,000 in the app) | Varies | Inside the limit | Not clickable | A video or photos |
| 3,000 | About 210 (140 on phones) | Inside the limit | Clickable | None, text works | |
| X | 280 (longer with Premium) | Full post shown | Inside the limit | Clickable, each counts as 23 | None, text works |
| 63,206 (Reels: 2,200) | Varies | Inside the limit | Clickable | None, text works | |
| Threads | 500 | Full post shown | 1 topic tag | Clickable, up to 5 | None, text works |
| Bluesky | 300 | Full post shown | Inside the limit | Clickable | None, text works |
| YouTube | 5,000 (description) | First lines | First 3 show above the title | Clickable on long videos, not in Shorts | A video |
| 800 via the API (500 in Pinterest's editor) | Varies | Inside the limit | Use the Pin's destination link | An image or video | |
| Google Business Profile | 1,500 | Varies | Not used | Not allowed, nor phone numbers | None, a photo is optional |
Character limits are hard limits: the network refuses anything longer. Where "more" cuts depends on the screen and the line breaks, so treat those figures as a guide.

Cross-posting, done right in Mydrop
Mydrop's editor counts the caption for every network as you type. When one network owns the limit, the editor names it and gives that network its own caption in one click.

Questions
Cross-posting, answered
Only if it fits the strictest rules: 280 characters for X, where emojis count as 2 and links as 23, 5 hashtags for Instagram, and no link or phone number for Google Business Profile.
No. Point people to the link in your bio. On accounts connected to Mydrop, posts with a link in the caption earned 7% less engagement than the account's typical post, so save links for networks where they click.
Instagram allows 5 per post, Threads turns 1 tag into the post's topic, and Google Business Profile does not use them. YouTube shows the first 3 above the title. Elsewhere, hashtags count inside the character limit.
X counts most emojis and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters as 2, and every link as 23 characters, whatever its length.
Yes. One post goes to as many of its 14 networks as you pick, and Customize for each platform gives any of them its own caption in the same composer.
