How Facebook engagement rate works
Reactions are likes, and more
Count every reaction (Like, Love, Care, Haha, Wow, Sad, Angry), plus comments and shares. Mydrop's benchmark counts reactions and comments, so leave shares out to compare with it.
Divide by reach
Reach is the number of people who saw the post. Most Page followers never see a given post, so a rate by followers makes every Page look weak.
Expect lower numbers
Facebook runs lower than Instagram or TikTok: on Mydrop the middle half of Facebook posts sat between 0.36% and 3.14%. Judge a post against Facebook, never against Instagram.
Example: “A Page post with 86 reactions and 9 comments on a reach of 5,400” = 1.76%, above the median Facebook post on Mydrop (1.11%)

Every Facebook number, and where to find it
What each number in the formula means, and where Meta shows it for a Page post.
| Number | Where Facebook shows it | In the formula |
|---|---|---|
| Reactions | Under the post, and in the post's insights | Counted |
| Comments | Under the post, and in the post's insights | Counted |
| Shares | Under the post, and in the post's insights | Optional: Mydrop's benchmark leaves them out |
| Reach (Viewers) | Meta Business Suite > Insights > Content | Divide by it |
| Views | Meta Business Suite > Insights: every time the post was shown | Not used: repeat views inflate it |
| Link clicks | The post's insights | Not in the rate: report them next to it |
| Followers | The Page | Divide by it only for a public, quick comparison |
Since November 2024 Meta reports Views instead of impressions, and in 2026 it began replacing reach with Viewers, the unique people who saw a post. Either way, divide by the unique count. Facebook shows no engagement rate itself; this is the formula Mydrop uses.
