How to size images for X
Standard ratios show whole
Since 2021 a single image in a standard ratio (16:9, 1:1, 4:5) shows uncropped on phones. Very tall or very wide images are cropped to the centre.
Up to 4 images, 5 MB each
A post carries up to 4 images of up to 5 MB (GIFs up to 15 MB). With several images, X crops each tile, so keep the subject centred.
The header loses its edges
At 1500 × 500 (3:1), about 60 pixels at the top and bottom may be cut on some screens, and the profile picture covers the lower left.
Example: “A 4,032 × 3,024 photo for an X header” = a 4,032 × 1,344 crop, saved at 1,500 × 500
