How Threads text formatting works
500 characters, shown whole
Threads shows the full post, so a bold word anywhere is seen. Keep styles for the one idea the post is about.
Check the count before posting
Threads counts emoji by their size in bytes, and styled letters are just as large. Test a heavily styled post before scheduling it close to 500.
Topic tags stay plain
A Threads post takes one topic tag. In styled letters it becomes a different word, so keep the tag plain.
Example: “Big news” = 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀: 8 characters in the counter here
Checked on October 11, 2026, against Threads's rules and limits.
