How Bluesky text formatting works
One letter, one character
Bluesky counts a post in graphemes, what you see as letters, so a styled letter counts as 1 toward the 300. Styles cost nothing extra there.
A 3,000-byte cap behind it
Bluesky also caps a post at 3,000 bytes, and a styled letter takes 4. A fully styled 300-letter post still fits.
Names and bios too
Styled letters show in a display name (64 characters) and a bio (256). Keep the main word of your name plain for search.
Example: “Big news” = 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀: 8 of Bluesky's 300 characters, the same as plain text
Checked on October 11, 2026, against Bluesky's rules and limits.
