Local social search runs on two things: a place and a need. If your profile, tags and captions say both ("sourdough bakery in Thao Dien", "dentist near Brooklyn Bridge"), you show up when people type that. If they only say your brand, you only show up when people already know you.

TLDR: Fill in every location field on each platform, tag the place on every post, name the service and the neighbourhood in captions and alt text, and keep Google Business Profile active. Then ask happy customers to tag you. Check what people search by typing your own category and city.

Fix the profile fields first

Posts get the attention, but profiles decide whether a search finds you. Check each one:

Platform What to fill in
Instagram Name field with service and city, bio line with neighbourhood, address and contact button, category
TikTok Business account, city in the bio, location on videos
Facebook Address, hours, service area, category, phone
Google Business Profile Categories, hours, services, photos, regular posts
Pinterest Local keywords in board names and pin descriptions

The name field gets searched far more than the bio. "Maya's Bakery | Sourdough, Thao Dien" can be found. "Maya's" only helps people who already know her.

Tag the place and say it in words

Every post should carry a location tag and the place written in the caption. Platforms read both, and a tag on its own is easy to miss.

Write captions the way a neighbour asks: "Fresh rye is out at 8am, five minutes from Thao Dien market." Add the place to the alt text too, because alt text feeds search and helps people who use screen readers.

Post what locals actually look for

Local searchers want proof that you are open, close and good. Rotate five post types:

  1. Today in the shop. Hours, new stock, wait times.
  2. Before and after. Work you did, with the neighbourhood named.
  3. Customer faces. With permission, tagged.
  4. Answers. Parking, prices, how to book.
  5. Local moments. Events and weather that matter to your area.

In Mydrop's data, carousels ran 10% above an account's typical post, so use them for before and after and for answers.

Treat Google Business Profile as a social channel

Plenty of "near me" searches never reach Instagram. They land on a Google listing. Post an update there each week with a photo and an offer, answer every review and keep hours correct on holidays. Mydrop publishes to Google Business Profile alongside your other platforms and reports calls and clicks, so one schedule covers both. For the wider channel choice, see the best platform mix for local businesses.

Turn customers into search signals

Ask for what the platforms read:

  • A tag or check-in when they post.
  • A review with the service named.
  • A comment under your post with their neighbourhood.

A printed card at the counter with one request works better than a general ask online. Reply to every tag and review within a day. Our post on finding customers in your comments covers how to turn those replies into sales.

Check what locals really type

Open each app and type your category and city, then your category and "near me". Look at the autofill suggestions and the top ten results. Write down which competitors appear and what their profiles and captions say that yours do not. Repeat monthly, since results shift.

Track three local numbers

  • Profile actions: calls, direction taps and website taps.
  • Place-tag views: how many people saw you through the place page.
  • Reviews and tags per month.

Raw likes tell you very little here. A post with 30 likes and 4 direction taps beats one with 300 likes and none.

Handle multiple locations without copy-paste

If you run two or three shops, give each its own profile fields, its own location tags and its own weekly post. Copying one caption across every branch makes each one look the same to a search system and to a customer. Change the neighbourhood, the opening hours, one local detail and the photo. Keep a short checklist per location so every branch fills in the same fields. Scheduling these in one calendar saves time, and a separate workspace per branch keeps the data apart when you check calls and direction taps.

Add your city to three profiles today

Update the name field and location on your two main platforms, add the neighbourhood to your last five captions' alt text where you can, and schedule next week's four local posts with a location tag on each.

FAQ

Quick answers

Add your location to your profile, tag the place in every post, and write the city and service in your captions and alt text. Keep your Google Business Profile up to date.

They put your post in the place feed, where nearby people browse. They work best with a caption that names the service and the neighbourhood.

Steady beats frequent. Two to four posts a week with local details is enough for most small businesses, and a weekly Google Business Profile update helps.

Next step

Stop coordinating around the work

If your team spends more time chasing approvals, assets, and publish details than creating better posts, the problem is probably not your people. It is the workflow around them. Mydrop brings planning, review, scheduling, and performance into one calmer operating system.

Managing 14+ social platforms felt like a 2 a.m. nightmare until Mydrop. The AI brand-voice mapping is scary accurate, and the client approval portal saved me easily 15 hours this week alone. It's the ultimate set-and-forget workspace for busy agencies.
A true automation tool for scheduling (and creating) social media content! It has saved me over 20 hours of work already in just my first couple weeks. A true game-changer for anyone in business, big or small!
Finally tried Mydrop on a test client and the white-label portal on a custom domain actually looks legit, no Mydrop branding sneaking in. The OAuth setup saved me from the usual “what's my password” back-and-forth.
Absolute game-changer. Mydrop completely automated my content workflow. The scheduling is flawless, it actually feels intuitive, and it saved me 10+ hours in my very first week. Best decision I've made for my socials!
