How TikTok text formatting works
Styled letters count 2
TikTok's publishing API counts a caption in UTF-16 units, and each styled letter takes 2. A 2,200-unit caption fits about 1,100 styled letters.
The caption sits on the video
TikTok shows the caption over the bottom of the video. A short bold first line reads at a glance; long styled text gets cut.
Hashtags stay plain
A styled hashtag is a different word to TikTok, so it will not join the hashtag's page. Style the words, never the hashtags.
