You can't measure brand consistency directly, so measure six things that move when it slips: template compliance, first-pass approval rate, approval speed, voice score, cadence spread across brands, and performance against each brand's own median. Put them in one row per brand on one page.
Don't set targets on day one. Run the scorecard for a month, then set targets from your own baseline.
TLDR: Track six KPIs per brand on a one-page dashboard: compliance, first-pass approvals, approval time, voice score, cadence spread and performance versus own median. Baseline for a month before setting targets.
The six KPIs
| KPI | How to measure it | What a drop tells you |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Template compliance | Sample 20 posts per brand per month. Score each one pass or fail against a short checklist: logo, colours, handle, required disclaimer | Brand assets are drifting or unavailable |
| 2. First-pass approval rate | The share of posts approved with no change requests | Briefs are unclear or the guidelines aren't being understood |
| 3. Time to approval | Hours from submission to approval | A bottleneck in review, or a brand being redesigned in the comments |
| 4. Voice score | A reviewer rates 20 sampled posts from 1 to 5 on three agreed traits, such as friendly, plain, direct | Tone is wandering, usually when new people join |
| 5. Cadence spread | Posts per week per brand, compared across brands in the same tier | One brand has gone quiet or is over-posting |
| 6. Performance vs own median | Each brand's recent posts against that brand's own median engagement | Content is off-brand for that audience |
KPIs 2 and 3 come straight from your approval flow, which is why they're the cheapest to track.
A reference point for approval time
In Mydrop's September 2026 data, on posts that went through client approval with both timestamps recorded, the median time from submission to approval was 6 hours, and 66% were approved within 24 hours. If your brands sit far above that, the delay is probably in review, not in creation.
Compare performance per platform
Consistent brand doesn't mean identical numbers. Platforms behave differently: the median engagement rate in our data was 3.1% on Instagram and 1.1% on Facebook. Comparing brands in a blended total mostly measures their platform mix.
Compare each brand to its own median and to the same platform at the other brands. A brand that falls below its own median for a month has an off-brand content problem, whatever its rank.
The one-page dashboard layout
Keep it to a single screen:
- One row per brand, one column per KPI
- Traffic-light colours, using thresholds you set after your first month
- A trend arrow against last month
- One line of commentary per brand written by the brand lead
Put the two fast signals, approval time and first-pass approvals, on the left. They move weekly. The compliance and voice scores move monthly and sit further right.
How to run the monthly review
- Pull the sample. Twenty posts per brand, random, across platforms.
- Score compliance and voice with the same reviewer or pair for every brand, so the scores are comparable.
- Read the dashboard top to bottom and pick the single worst brand-KPI pair.
- Fix the cause, not the post. A missing logo file is an asset problem. Repeated tone misses are a brief problem.
Our library audit guide goes deeper on the compliance sample, and why templates break brand consistency covers the most common asset-level cause.
Two of the six KPIs come free from your approval flow
Two of the six KPIs fall out of the workflow for free. Mydrop's approvals record when a post was submitted and approved, with roles and comments in the same place, and per-platform post previews catch visual problems before they publish. Each brand lives in its own workspace, and the multi-profile benchmark shows brands side by side against their own medians.
Next step: build the six-column sheet today with one row per brand and score the first 20 posts from each brand. That's your baseline month. Start free with Mydrop to get approval time and per-brand benchmarks without the manual pull.
