One strong post can become 15 pieces of content in about 30 minutes, but only if you cut it by idea, not by copy. Each piece below takes a different slice of the original and a different format, so your audience never sees the same post twice.
TLDR: Start with a post that already worked. Pull out its 3 to 5 distinct ideas, then turn them into the 15-piece menu below: 5 text posts, 4 visuals, 3 short videos, 2 questions and 1 link. Schedule them across three weeks so each piece has room to breathe.
Choose a source post worth cutting
Repurposing a weak post gives you 15 weak posts. Start with something that already earned saves, shares or replies: a blog post, a webinar, a long thread or a video.
Read it once and underline every sentence that could stand alone. A good source has 3 to 5 of those: a number, a mistake, a step, a story, a claim. Each one becomes the seed of several pieces.
The 15-piece menu, with minutes per piece
| # | Piece | Source slice | Minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 | Five single-idea text posts | One underlined sentence each, rewritten | 10 total |
| 6 | Carousel, 5 to 7 slides | The steps or list | 5 |
| 7 | Quote graphic | Your strongest sentence | 2 |
| 8 | Stat or number graphic | One number from the source | 2 |
| 9 | Before and after graphic | A mistake and its fix | 2 |
| 10 to 12 | Three 15-second videos | One idea each, talking head or screen | 6 |
| 13 | Question post | The unresolved point | 1 |
| 14 | Poll or "this or that" | A choice inside the source | 1 |
| 15 | Link post to the original | The whole thing, last | 1 |
That adds up to about 30 minutes of drafting once you've chosen the source. Allow more for video editing the first time.
Change the angle of each piece, not just the format
A carousel that repeats the post's headline isn't a new piece. Change what the reader gets:
- The mistake version: "Most people do X wrong."
- The steps version: "Here are the three steps."
- The story version: "What happened when we tried it."
- The number version: "One number that surprised us."
Each of those can sit on a different platform and still feel fresh. If you want the platform-by-platform plan, the repurposing workflow for five networks covers it.
Respect the platform instead of copy-pasting everywhere
A line that works on X at 280 characters won't suit a Pinterest pin, and a LinkedIn story needs more room than an Instagram caption.
Mydrop's publisher enforces caption caps before a post goes out: TikTok 2,200 characters with hashtags counted inside, X 280 weighted characters, Bluesky 300, and Instagram rejects anything over 2,200 characters. Draft to the shortest cap first and expand from there. Instagram also caps posts and Reels at 5 hashtags, a rule you keep yourself.
For video, one cut can become several posts. The video repurposing guide shows how to split a single recording across TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
Schedule the 15 across three weeks, not one day
Posting 15 pieces in two days buries them and invites the algorithm to treat you as spam.
Spread them across three weeks, five a week, and mix the formats so no two similar pieces sit side by side. In Mydrop's data, carousels ran 10% above the account's typical post, so put the carousel early in the first week.
Don't worry about repeating the core idea. Most followers see only a fraction of what you post.
Use Mydrop to build the 15 in one sitting
Mydrop's bulk creation lets you draft many posts at once and send them to the calendar together, and AI captions can turn each underlined sentence into a draft in your saved voice. You still pick the ideas and edit the result.
Then place the pieces on the content calendar, where you can see three weeks at a glance and spot two similar posts in a row.
Track which slice earns the most
After three weeks, compare the 15 pieces to your median reach and engagement. Note which idea, format and platform won.
The winners tell you what to repurpose next. If the "mistake" angle beat the "steps" angle, make the next source post a mistake post from the start.
